TU Delft Software Project

The project will run from Monday April 20th 2026 until Friday June 26th 2026.
You can submit project proposals starting January 13th 2026 until Sunday March 15th 2026.
You can submit proposals via https://projectforum.tudelft.nl/.

For the previous course edition we received an enormous amount of proposals at the last minute. Because of this the proposal deadline has been moved forward by one week. Please submit your proposals well in advance to ensure the coordinators have enough time to review all proposals in a timely fashion.

Welcome to the landing page for the CSE2000 Software Project! The Software Project is a 10-week course for second year Computer Science students at the TU Delft. As part of the project, the students have to conduct requirements engineering, write a project plan, implement and test an appropriate solution, and present results. Students tackle this challenge by integrating their knowledge and experience from previous courses and projects in groups of 5. In general, students choose projects in March and carry them out from mid-April until the end of June (i.e., during the fourth academic quarter at the TU Delft). Typically there are between 70 and 80 student teams.

During the project, the students are available to work for the company at most 32 hours per week. The project is full time, but the students are expected to do work for the university (e.g. meet with their supervisor, or write a report) in the remaining time. This means, that even though the project runs for 10 weeks, the students will work on implementing a solution to the proposed problem for about eight weeks. The rest of the time is spend on research, ensuring the project has a good design, and documentation.

What can you expect as a client company?

  • A group of 5 motivated second year Bachelor students.
  • The project will run from mid April to the end of June (roughly 10 weeks). For exact dates please refer to the timeline page.
  • Each student will spend up to 320 hours working on the project (most of which will be development).
  • As a client company you retain the IP for the product that is developed by the students during the project.
  • The students retain the IP of the report they have to create about their project.
  • Although the report is not a public document, university employees, and a teaching assistant will read it to assess the work of the students.
  • The university nor her employees will sign any form of NDA.
    • You can create an NDA for the students that do the project for your company (in case you will share sensitive information with them).

What do we expect from clients?

  • As a client company we expect you to have enough time and resources to support the students. Fulfilling the role of client takes between 3-6 hours per week on average.
    • We expect you to meet with the students at least once per week. We strongly recommend to invite the students to work at your office one or more days per week, as past projects have shown this is beneficial for the end result.
    • The first two weeks of the project may be more time intensive since the students will have to talk to you a lot to gather the requirements and agree on their solution.
    • At the end of the project (end of June) you will be invited to the TU Delft to attend the final presentation and provide input for the assessment of the students. This will take ~2 hours.
    • If your project requires specific domain knowledge or relies on an existing system (that the students are not familiar with), you are expected to invest more time to help the students get started.
  • If your project requires data or specific resources we expect you to have these ready at the start of the project.

How to proceed?

Want to learn more about the project and the steps in the application process? You can find more information on the “Submit a project” page. You can find several example project from past course editions under “Example Projects”. If you have questions or are unsure about the suitability of your proposal you can reach out to the course coordinators at sp-cs-ewi@tudelft.nl. Finally, if you have a proposal you want to submit (or get feedback on) you can create an account on Project Forum: https://projectforum.tudelft.nl/ and follow the process there. Please note that we do not accept project proposals year round, please consult the top of this page for relevant dates & deadlines.
